Ingredients

  • 40 saltine crackers about 1 sleeve
  • 1 cup butter 226 g
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar 200 g
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips 340 g
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or sprinkles optional

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed 10x15-inch baking sheet with foil and then parchment. Lay the crackers in a single layer, salt side up.
  2. Melt the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes without stirring, until thick and bubbly. Stir in the vanilla off the heat.
  3. Pour the toffee evenly over the crackers and spread quickly.
  4. Bake for 5 minutes, until bubbling all over.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Wait 3 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.
  6. Add pecans or sprinkles. Chill for 1 hour until firm, then break into pieces.

Notes

Safety: the toffee is extremely hot. Keep children away while boiling and pouring.
